Allen Ruppersberg

a1gb0000000xKG3AAM

Allen Ruppersberg (Cleveland, Ohio, 1944) is one of the first generation of American conceptual artists who changed the way art was conceived and made. His oeuvre includes paintings, prints, sculpture, installations and... books. In his early years he already had close contacts with John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha, William Wegman and Allan McCollum. He took part in, among other things, the mythical exhibitions 'When Attitudes Become Form' (by Harald Szeemann at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1969) and Rudi Fuchs' documenta V in Kassel (1972). His work is to be found in such major collections as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt. His recent solo exhibitions include 'Allen Ruppersberg - the singing posters', Berkeley Art Museum (2006), 'Poetry and Rearrangement', Galerie Martin Janda, Vienna (2006), 'One of Many - Origins and Variants', Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (2005) and 'The New Five Foot Shelf', De Hallen, Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem (2004).
