Marcus Steinweg (D, born 1971), philosopher, is a lecturer at the Kunstacademie in Braunschweig. What is unusual about him is that he repeatedly collaborates with artists. For example, with the Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn - previously a guest of Curating the Library - he created, amongst others, the following works: 'World Airport' at the Venice Biennale (1999), 'Bataille Monument' at documenta11, Kassel (2002), 'U-Lounge' in Tate Modern, London (2004), '24 Hour Foucault' in the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2004) and 'Utopia Utopia. One World, One War, One Army, One Dress' at the ICA, Boston (2005). He has also published the following books: 'Autofahren mit Lacan' (Koblenz, 2001), 'Krieg der différence' (Koblenz, 2001), 'Bataille Maschine' (Berlin, 2003), 'Subjektsingularitäten' (Berlin, 2004), 'Behauptungsphilosophie' (Berlin, 2006) and, in collaboration with the German artist Rosemarie Trockel, the two books 'Mutter' (Cologne, 2006) and 'Duras' (Berlin, 2007). In 2008, he has already given the following talks: 'Marguerite Duras as philosopher' (London), 'What is a collective' (Bordeaux), 'Die Nacktheit Antigones' (Berlin), 'Affirmation of chaos: Art & Philosophy' (Lisbon), 'What is an artwork' (Havana) and 'Museum as Excess' (Bologna).
