1h Voice and violin merge in an intense solo performance.
Diamanda Dramm is among the most striking performers of contemporary music of her generation. As a violinist, singer, and composer, she continually explores the interplay between voice and violin.
With CHIMP, she takes a significant step in her own practise: never before has she composed a work on this scale. With minimal equipment - two violins, a small table, a lamp, and a few pedals - Dramm creates an intense intimacy on stage. The acoustic violin is the source, the voice carries the sound, and the electric violin opens up new sonic possibilities.
Her music moves effortlessly between worlds. Dramm is classically trained, and deeply familiar with the American avant-garde and contemporary new music, while also drawing inspiration from alternative pop. These diverse influences merge into a personal idiom that is at once direct, clear, and enchanting.
