Thomas Ankersmit
The Tcherepnin Series
Thomas Ankersmit - analogue modular synth in an immersive concert.
The Berlin-based composer and musician Thomas Ankersmit (Shelter Press, Touch, PAN) has been working with the Serge Modular synthesiser for over twenty years - an iconic analogue instrument developed 50 years ago by Serge Tcherepnin.
With The Tcherepnin Series, Ankersmit goes back to this instrument’s roots. In 2025, he recorded in studios across the globe with large, historical Serge systems. Each of these rare configurations has its own character, shaped by its history and surroundings.
The live performance brings these sound worlds together. Ankersmit improvises on his own Serge system, interweaving it with carefully composed material recorded on the historical instruments. The result is a fully analogue and immersive listening experience, balancing between physical sound, presence, and imagined space.
