In gesprek met Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker

On the eve of the revival of Rosas danst Rosas (Thu 17 – Sun 20 Dec), we welcome choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker for a conversation. We return to the early days of her career and look back on a life devoted to dance. Rosas danst Rosas was the very first production by Rosas presented by DE SINGEL, in January 1984. It marked the beginning of an intensive artistic relationship that has now lasted for more than forty years. No other company has appeared as often on the stage of the Red Hall. Rosas danst Rosas proved emblematic of De Keersmaeker’s distinctive style and of the themes she would continue to explore: the female and feminist perspective, the rationality of choreography, and repetitive music. Since its premiere in 1983, the piece has been performed by different generations of dancers, while De Keersmaeker has developed a vast and significant body of work amid a rapidly changing world. In the face of an ephemeral art form such as dance, perhaps one question ultimately imposes itself: what remains?
